Location and Facilities

High atop Powell Mountain in Peterstown, West Virginia, it is hard to imagine a more beautiful yet functional location for Scottie’s Place. The land itself embodies the spirit of the camp: rolling meadows, deep forests and mountain streams offer the perfect setting for camping retreats, exploration, rejuvenation and high-spirited fun.

Simple facilities are provided for all participants. Tents, tipis, longhouses and cabins provide comfortable and varied shelter. The Pioneer Lodge, our new muti-purpose building, accommodates larger groups for year-round programs. The large organic garden and orchards tended by children and staff provide an abundance of healthy, hearty foods. Farm animals include burros, pigs, sheep and chickens. Loving dogs and cats round out the menagerie. There are two beautiful mountain ponds for swimming and canoeing and over three miles of hiking trails that encircle the camp. Scottie’s Place is within walking distance of the New River and a twenty minute drive from the Appalachian Trail.

This wild and wonderful land goes deep into the soul of a child. At Scottie’s Place, children find adventure, friendship and healing. They are awed, thrilled and changed.
